Nativity: Native to Arizona, New Mexico, and northern Mexico, particularly the Sonoran and Chihuahuan Desert regions.
Ecology: A drought-tolerant perennial subshrub commonly found in desert grasslands, washes, roadsides, and other open, disturbed areas. Dense clusters of yellow flowers provide an important late-season nectar and pollen source for native bees, butterflies, and other pollinators.
Elevation: Approximately 2,000–5,000 ft
Size: Typically 2–3 ft tall × 2–3 ft wide
Flowering duration: Late summer–fall, typically August–November
Sun/Shade preference: Full sun
Foliage duration: Evergreen to semi-evergreen; may become partially deciduous during drought or winter cold
