Chrysactinia mexicana (Damianita)
Nativity: Native to the Chihuahuan Desert, including parts of southeastern Arizona. Well-suited to Tucson landscapes with excellent drainage and full sun exposure.
Ecology: Found on rocky slopes, hillsides, and well-drained desert soils. This low-growing shrub produces bright yellow, daisy-like flowers that attract native bees and other pollinators. Its aromatic foliage helps deter herbivory, making it a resilient choice for exposed sites.
Elevation: 2,000 – 5,000 ft
Size: Compact, mounding shrub, typically 1–2 ft tall and 2–3 ft wide
Flowering Duration: Spring and fall, often blooming after seasonal rains

Foliage Duration: Evergreen to semi-evergreen; may thin during extreme cold or drought but quickly rebounds
